Off to Loja!

June 20 we set off for Loja from Shell. Mileage charts show this to be just over 500miles. It took us 11 hours by rented van to get here. Nice thing is that here when you rent the van you rent the driver as well!! Has been a while for a blog update as internet has been awful.

The "Devils Cauldron" waterfall between Shell and Banos. You can see it from the top, which is where this picture is taken. We also went to see it from the bottom. See where those stairs go??? We were in the bottom of that. We actually though rain ponchos were going to keep us dry. LOL!!!

Sad to be leaving Shell and the Blossers. Mark, Cinthia, and Daniel were wonderful! Truly hoping to see them again!!!

This is the view coming into Loja after an 11 hour van ride. Many landslides and many rocks in the road. Just the usual in Ecuador evidently. Loja is at 6700 feet and is 70 degrees year around. No heaters, no air conditioners. And only 35 inches of rain per year compared to 240 inches of rain per year in Shell!!

A picture of the van driver getting a picture of Loja. You may not be able to tell but on the other side of the guard rail is a vertical drop of around 300 ft! Had I known this guy had a death wish I would not have let him drive us to Loja!!!
